Client Name: Umoya EnergyProject Description: As owner’s engineer, Mott MacDonald Africa’s energy team helped the first wind farm in South Africa to achieve commercial operation as part of the country’s renewable energy programme.
Located on farmland within the Saldanha Bay municipality in the Western Cape Province, the 66MW Hopefield wind farm consists of 37 × 1,8 MW wind turbines and will generate enough electricity to power 70 000 low-income homes in South Africa.
The client required assistance with EPC-type contracts, contract administration and, in particular, quality assessment during the construction phase of the wind farm.
The team delivered owner’s engineering, technical advisory and employer’s representative services during the construction period.
A multidisciplinary approach supported the provision of technical specialist expertise as needed throughout the construction period.
